RAPS Alumni Update: Ricky & Cleo

At the most recent RAPS pub night, I had the great pleasure of meeting Wes & Katrina, who adopted sanctuary cats Ricky & Cleo last May. They were kind enough to share an update and photos of this together-forever pair loving life in their forever home.

They are both doing very well.

Cleo has really come out of her shell. At the sanctuary she was so timid and shy, and Ricky was so out going, we thought for sure she would take the longest to warm up to her new home, but it was just the opposite. She was the first to come out of hiding, and Ricky is a bit of a scaredy cat as it turns out. She spends most of the day chasing around fake mice and watching the birds at the feeder from her “catio.”

Ricky is a lap cat, and doesn’t care for toys or birds and just wants to be pet and sleep all day long. Ricky was my laying around all day buddy when I had my back injury last year, and it really helped to have him there beside me.

It took them a while, but they have definitely found their forever home.

Adoptions: Cow, Ricky & Cleo, Wonder

Some happy news as we start off the month of June:

A little while ago, we were able to bid farewell and good luck to our black & white charmer, Cow. I hear his acceptance of the resident cat in his new home is still a work in progress, but his new owner has enough experience with shelter cats to give him time.

Our "together forever" pair Ricky & Cleo were at last able to be adopted out - together! They went to their new home last weekend.

And finally, our nearly blind miracle kitten Wonder went to her new home on Tuesday. From her odds-beating rescue from the side of a road to being given the eventual all clear for leukemia, she's a pretty amazing girl. And that's not even beginning to describe her cheerful, loving personality.

As much as we'll miss all these cats, it's wonderful to see them go to the forever homes they deserve.

Ricky & Cleo

Cleo and Ricky form one of our favorite "together forever" pairs.

Their separation from their human family was a traumatic one --
A marital breakup resulted in five cats being left behind at a North Richmond home. RAPS was contacted by the wife's relatives and asked to come and retrieve the cats, but the animal control officer could only find two. Carol, Gaye and Leslie went over and managed to capture Ricky and Cleo outside in the yard. The pair were understandably frightened from their experience, but after a few weeks RAPS staff were able to convince them they were now in a safe place.

Friendly and affectionate, Ricky is what Leslie would call "a perfect cat." It's so very easy to take to him. For his part, he very much enjoys snuggling on laps. Leslie reports that he also quite enjoys climbing on her back.

Cleo

Leslie tells me that it took Cleo longer to trust people, but now "she's pretty relaxed and oh, so cute." That she is.

These two enjoy each others company, whether peacefully napping together or playfully wrestling, and are looking for a nice home where they can stay together.
